In recognition for his solid performance last Sunday, Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake has been named by the league as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2014 NFL season.

Wake was a nightmare for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, sacking him twice in the season opener and helping to shut down the Patriots' offense in the second half. The Dolphins rallied after a halftime deficit to beat their division rivals 33-20 at Sun Life Stadium.

The three-time Pro Bowler also tallied three tackles and two forced fumbles against the Patriots to earn his second ever AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He is the first Dolphins player to win the award in Week 1 since Zach Thomas back in 2001.
