Milwaukee Bucks forward Carlos Delfino underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia on Thursday morning. He's expected to return to basketball activities in six to eight weeks, according to a tweet from the Bucks.
Delfino missed 10 games at the end of the season due to a groin injury that he had suffered at the end of March. In 54 games this season, the starting small forward averaged nine points and almost four rebounds per game.
The Argentinian forward had been planning on joining his country's team in the 2012 London Olympics this summer -- a team that includes San Antonio's Manu Ginobili and Houston's Luis Scola. He told reporters last week that he hoped his decision to undergo surgery early on in the summer would allow him enough time to recover before the games. The Olympics begin on July 27.
Much of Delfino's future is still in question, not only with the Argentinian national team, but also with the Bucks. Delfino is currently an unrestricted free agent, along with forwards Ersan Ilyasova and Kwame Brown.
