TUCSON, Ariz. – With Head Coach Mike Candrea not in the Arizona dugout after being hospitalized from Sunday through Tuesday with chest pains, the Arizona softball team (20-8) used three home runs to power past San Diego State, 8-0 in five innings.

Brigette Del Ponte hit her sixth and seventh homers of the season and Lini Koria homered once as Arizona cruised to the run-rule victory.

Sophomore Shelby Babcock (10-5) struck out just one but was backed by solid defense to pick up the shutout victory.

Rebecca Arbino took the loss for San Diego State (18-18), giving up nine hits.

Del Ponte and Chelsea Suitos had two hits apiece for the Wildcats, and Del Ponte drove in five runs.

The two clubs meet again on Wednesday in a 3 p.m.
