DE surprises with commitment

Jason Strowbridge made his commitment via twitter on Saturday afternoon. This four-star defensive end from Deerfield Beach (Fla.) shocked everyone by selecting Kentucky.

“IM COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY!!!! #whynot #BBN #StoopsTroops” - @StrowKnows_55

Everyone in the Sunshine State had him pegged to stay home and play for the Miami Hurricanes. Instead, he opted for Mark Stoops and his Wildcats. This is further evidence that Stoops and company are truly ascending as a program. For a program like Kentucky to go to Miami’s backyard and pull a recruit like this is huge.

Strowbridge , 6-foot-4, 241-pounds, is the state’s No. 3 ranked player at his position in the state of Florida behind CeCe Jefferson (Glen St. Mary Baker County) and Byron Cowart (Seffner Armwood).

Speaking of Cowart, he was supposed to make his decision this upcoming Sunday night on September 28th. But the 6-foot-4, 240-pound five-star defensive end told me after his game Friday that will he will push his commitment back, most likely to January during the Under Armour All-America Game.

Cowart is fresh off an official visit to Maryland, as that was his second trip to see the Terrapins since July. He was scheduled to attend the FSU/Clemson game on Saturday but instead chose to stay home.

Cowart plans on visiting someone this weekend, although he didn’t know who on Friday night. Cowart wants to visit Oregon and Florida State and possiblyAlabama and LSU. Of course the Gators remain heavily in the mix. In fact, Cowart said he was anxious to see how Florida played against a team like the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

Florida State nabbed two of the better defensive ends from the next class of 2016 over the weekend. Janarius Robinson (Panama City, Fla./Bay) committed to the Seminoles on Saturday night following their home overtime win over Clemson. This is not much of a surprise, as Robinson as be leaning to FSU for some time. He’s a 6-foot-5, 225-pound four-star recruit.

Jimbo Fisher also landed another four-star in the ’16 class in Josh Brown (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek). Like Robinson, Brown was in Tallahassee for the game. He told Scout that he had planned on pulling the trigger with Florida State but he wanted his coach and family with him when he told the Seminole coaching staff. FSU is off to a great start with their 2016 class.

They have four commitments and all are four-star prospects at this point.
