The Texas Rangers are now running up the All-Star score.
Texas, which already had a baseball high seven All-Stars for next Tuesday's game in Kansas City, now has eight after right-hander Yu Darvish won the Final Vote for the American League.
Darvish, who is 10-5, beat out Chicago's Jake Peavy, Baltimore's Jason Hammel, Kansas City's Jonathan Broxton and Los Angeles' Ernesto Frieri.
Darvish finished with 7.3 million votes. Peavy finished second, followed by Hamel, Broxton and Frieri.
Darvish is the first Texas player to win a Final Vote. Ian Kinsler was on the ballot in 2009 and Michael Young in 2010 but neither player won.
The eight All-Stars are a club record for Texas. The old high was six, set in 2010.
Darvish, who won't pitch again for Texas before the All-Star break, has 119 strikeouts in 102 innings to go along with a 3.59 ERA. He's tied with New York Mets starter R.A. Dickey for the most double-digit strikeout games in the majors with five.
The addition of Darvish marks the second-consecutive season in which Texas has had two starting pitchers make the All-Star team. Last year C.J. Wilson and Alexi Ogando made the team as starters. This year Darvish is joining left-hander Matt Harrison, who allowed two runs in eight innings in a 2-1 loss to Chicago Thursday.
When the All-Star team was released last Sunday, Texas manager Ron Washington said the decision to put Darvish on the Final Vote ballot increased his chance of making the team. Washington did not use one of his manager's picks on Darvish but did select Texas teammates Harrison, Elvis Andrus and Joe Nathan for the team.
