Let's get to Thursday's interesting facts, using DraftKings prices. We'll cover both the day (four games) and night (four games) schedules.
Five Things to Watch:
1 Here are the three highest projected over/unders, provided by OddsShark...
2 Weather: ATL-CHC is a good bet to be postponed once again. CIN-PIT also looks to be in trouble, and you should keep an eye on WSH-STL. It seems safe to avoid ATL-CHC altogether.
3 You down with BvP? Adrian Beltre is 12-for-40 with 3 HR against Garrett Richards. Andrelton Simmons is 2-for-21 against Cole Hamels. Brian McCann is 10-for-29 with 3 HR against David Price.
4 Your three biggest pitching favorites for the night: Clayton Kershaw (-310) against the Padres, Jason Hammel (-210) against the Braves and Rich Hill (-152) against Houston.
5 Sneaky stack options: The Minnesota Twins aren't a team you'll stack very often, but Mike Pelfrey is terrible enough to justify it. With good prices on power bats like Miguel Sano and Byung Ho Park, the Twins are a solid bet to put up big runs in a game with a projected run total of 9.
Yesterday's recap:
Evan Longoria was our must-start of the day, and he homered for us. Our stack of the day, the Texas Rangers, scored 7 runs on 12 hits. Let's move on to Sunday.
Must-Start of the day: Clayton Kershaw, LAD
Yes, he’ll be highly owned. Yes, he’s awfully expensive and there are other great options on the board. It doesn’t matter. Kershaw is downright unhittable at home, and he gets a woeful Padres offense in a game with a 6.5 projected run total. He’s the safest SP out there.
Deal of the day: David Peralta, ARI
He’s a better hitter than his numbers have shown this year, and he’s incredibly cheap $3500 in one of Sunday’s best matchups. For a guy with an .893 OPS and near double-digit steals last year, there’s a lot of upside.
Avoid of the day: Rougned Odor, TEX
Stinky Odor has been pretty stinky against Garrett Richards in the past. He’s just 1-for-20 lifetime with 8 strikeouts against Richards. If you want exposure to the Rangers, look basically anywhere else in the lineup.
Stack of the day: Arizona Diamondbacks
Sometimes we don’t need to overthink it. The Diamondbacks are favored in a game with a 9.5 projected run total against the combustible Chad Bettis. It’s going to cost you a pretty penny, but they’re clearly the top stack on the board.
Starting pitchers:
Clayton Kershaw, LAD: “Must-Start of the Day”
Danny Salazar, CLE: He may not always be the most efficient pitcher, but Salazar is averaging over a strikeout per inning and has been nasty as usual. The Phillies lineup is a good one to target as well.
Noah Syndergaard, NYM: This isn’t a day to go cheap on starters. Thor has been a strikeout machine this year (38 in 26 IP), which makes him a great GPP target, especially with users likely avoiding the matchup with Bumgarner.
Catchers:
Yasmani Grandal, LAD: Hit .308 against lefties last year and is cheap at $3200.
Stephen Vogt, OAK: Fister’s soft-throwing ways might not hold up against Vogt, who hits righties hard.
First basemen:
Joe Mauer or Byung Ho Park, MIN: I’d get exposure to one of Minnesota’s bats listed at first base, with Park being the preference because of his big power.
Paul Goldschmidt, ARI: Crucial component of any Diamondbacks stack.
Second basemen:
Ian Kinsler, DET: 7-for-17 against Ricky Nolasco.
Jean Segura, ARI: Mashing this year, and the matchup is right against Bettis. Dual speed and power threat as well.
Third basemen:
Miguel Sano, MIN: Part of our Twins stack against Pelfrey.
Adrian Beltre, TEX: Owns Garrett Richards (12-for-40, 3 HR) and is affordable at just $3700.
Shortstops:
Zack Cozart, CIN: Hit lefties well last year and is hitting .373 so far this season.
Eduardo Nunez, MIN: Targeting Pelfrey in this spot.
Outfielders:
David Peralta, ARI: “Deal of the Day”
Christian Yelich, MIA: He’s been on fire to start the season and Wily Peralta struggles against LHB.
Giancarlo Stanton, MIA: If you play Yelich, Stanton isn’t a bad mini stack partner, right?
Nick Markakis, ATL: If it plays, Markakis is 23-for-68 lifetime against John Lackey.
