PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks have placed National League home-run leader Mark Trumbo on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his left foot and have called up outfielder Roger Kieschnick from Triple-A Reno.
Trumbo said he felt pain while jogging to his position Monday against the Chicago Cubs and an MRI revealed the stress fracture. He goes on the DL retroactive to Tuesday.
Trumbo, who was part of a three-way trade with the White Sox and Angels during the offseason, was tied for the NL lead with seven homers and second with 19 RBIs. He was hitting .210 and tied for the team lead with 22 strikeouts for the 6-18 Diamondbacks.
Kieschnick, 27, was batting .281 with five doubles, three home runs and eight RBI in 18 games with Reno. Arizona claimed him off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on April 4. He played in 38 games for the Giants last season and hit .202 in 84 at-bats.
Trumbo said he suffered a similar injury to his right foot in the final week of the 2011 season, but this one is less severe. He said it took him more than five months to recover from the previous injury.
"That one was a pain. That took a long time. This one should be significantly less," he said.
The loss of Trumbo leaves the Diamondbacks with Gerardo Parra, A.J. Pollock and Cody Ross as their likely regulars in the outfield, with Tony Campana and Kieschnick in reserve. Martin Prado could also see time in the outfield, with Eric Chavez getting more playing time at third.
Ross returned April 18 after missing eight months with a fractured hip suffered last August. Center fielder A.J. Pollock has also missed time this week with a sore neck.
