Cuban saves St. Patrick's Day Parade
Mark Cuban has some experience at throwing a parade. Now he's saving one.
The Dallas Mavericks owner wrote a $40,000 check to cover the shortfall for the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day Parade, according to the Dallas Observer's Unfair Park blog.
The parade has been a Dallas tradition since 1979, but was in danger of being cancelled if it couldn't raise the funds by Friday.
Cuban, who helped cover the costs of the Mavericks' NBA championship parade last summer, told the blog via email that, "It's a Dallas tradition that I have really enjoyed. I didn't want to see it go away."
Cuban reportedly turned down an offer to be the parade's grand marshal, but he did pledge another $25,000 to the parade's scholarship fund. He also indicated an interest in underwriting some of the parade's costs in the future.
According to the blog, Greenville Avenue Area Business Association president Jorge Levy emailed Cuban last week asking for help.
Cuban receives countless emails every day from his published addresses. Levy said Cuban responded in seven minutes pledging support.
The Mavs' owner told him, "Can't let it die."
