MILWAUKEE -- Marquette senior forward Jae Crowder earned second-team All-American honors Monday, on a day in which he had also been named to the John Wooden Award All-American Team.
Crowder, a forward who averaged 17.5 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Golden Eagles this season, had already been named the 2011-12 Big East Conference player of the year.
"It's truly an honor to be included on these teams with the best players in the nation," Crowder said. "I am honestly very humbled.
"None of this would have been possible without the help and dedication of my teammates and coaches."
Crowder helped lead Marquette to a 27-8 overall record this season, a run that included a program-best 14-4 mark in Big East play. He ranked among the national leaders in steals per contest (2.5) and was among the league leaders in seven separate stat categories.
The Wooden Award is a presitgious individual honor that is bestowed upon the nation's best player who is maintaining a GPA of at least 2.0 or better. Previous winners have included Larry Bird (1979) and Michael Jordan (1984).
Joining Crowder as 2011-12 Wooden All-Americans are the likes of Jared Sullinger (Ohio State), Anthony Davis (Kentucky) and Draymond Green (Michigan State), to name just a few.
