Coyotes claim center Brule on waivers

The Coyotes have claimed center Gilbert Brule off re-entry waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.

The 5-foot-11, 174 pound Brule has recorded 8 goals and 10 assists in 27 games this season with the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League. In 2010-11, he played in 41 games for Edmonton, registering seven goals, two assists and 41 penalty minutes.

Brule, 25, has 263 career games at the NHL level with Edmonton and Columbus, recording 38 goals and 43 assists. He set career highs in goals (17), assists (20), points (37), power-play goals (2) and game-winning goals (3) with Edmonton during the 2009-10 season.

Brule was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft.

The Coyotes also announced that center Boyd Gordon has been activated off Injured Reserve. Gordon missed seven games with a lower-body injury.
