Coyotes announce 2014-15 schedule

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Coyotes, who will officially change their team name to Arizona Coyotes on Friday, announced their complete schedule for the 2014-15 season on Sunday.

The Coyotes will open their 18th regular season in Arizona on Thursday, Oct. 9 at at Jobing.com Arena against the Winnipeg Jets. The game against the Jets is the first of four home games to begin the season with visits from the Los Angeles Kings (Oct. 11), Edmonton Oilers (Oct. 15) and St. Louis Blues (Oct. 18) to follow.

In addition, some of the NHL's biggest stars will once again visit Jobing.com Arena this season, including: Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty and the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings (Oct. 11 and Dec. 4); Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals (Nov. 18); Zdeno Chara, Tuukka Rask and the Boston Bruins (Dec. 6); Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and the Minnesota Wild (Dec. 13); Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and the Anaheim Ducks (Dec. 27, March 3 and April 11); Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers (Dec. 29); Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks (Jan. 13, Feb. 13 and April 4); Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg and the Detroit Red Wings (Feb. 7); Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers (Feb. 14); Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning (Feb. 21); Henrik and Daniel Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks (March 5 and 22); Carey Price, P.K. Subban and the Montreal Canadiens (March 7); Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks (Match 12); and Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins (March 21).

START TIMES

Like last season, the start time for all weekday home games will be 7 p.m. with the exception of Wednesday, Oct. 15 when the Coyotes host the Edmonton Oilers at 7:30 p.m. (Canadian TV). Most Saturday home games at Jobing.com Arena will start at 6:00 p.m. with the exception of three games (Nov. 29 at 8 p.m., Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. and March 7 at 5 p.m.). These times are also due to Canadian national television broadcasts. The Coyotes will have one Sunday home game against Vancouver on March 22 at 5 p.m.

ALL-STAR BREAK

The Coyotes will break for the 2015 All-Star Game from Jan 21-26. The midseason showcase will be held Jan. 24-25 in Columbus, Ohio at Nationwide Arena. The weekend will include the NHL All-Star Skills Competition in addition to the All-Star Game.

SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN

The NHL's scheduling format will see the Coyotes play five games each against Pacific Division rivals Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, San Jose and Vancouver. The Coyotes will also meet Los Angeles four times for a total of 29 division contests. They will face the remaining seven Western Conference teams three times each for a total of 21 games. In addition, they will play each of the 16 Eastern Conference teams twice, once at home and once on the road.

The Coyotes have a pair of six-game home stands in 2014-15. The first is Jan. 3 - Jan 15 and will feature the Columbus Blue Jackets (Jan. 3), St. Louis Blues (Jan. 6), Winnipeg (Jan. 8), Ottawa Senators (Jan. 10), San Jose (Jan. 13) and the Calgary Flames (Jan. 15). The second six-game home stand is March 3 - March 14 and includes Anaheim (March 3), Vancouver (March 5), Montreal (March 7), the Nashville Predators (March 9), Chicago (March 12) and the New Jersey Devils (March 14). The Coyotes will also have one five-game home stand from Dec. 4-16.

For the second straight season the Coyotes will play every Original Six team at Jobing.com Arena: Boston (Dec. 6), Chicago (March 12), Detroit (Feb. 7), Montreal (March 7), New York Rangers (Feb. 14) and Toronto (Nov. 4). The Coyotes will play a total of 13 sets of back-to-back games this season.

PRESEASON SCHEDULE

The Coyotes eight-game preseason slate will open on Monday, Sept. 22 with split-squad games against Los Angeles. Start time at Jobing.com Arena will be 7 p.m. while puck drop at the STAPLES Center will be at 7:30 p.m.

Arizona will then embark on a five-game road trip beginning at Anaheim on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and ending at Edmonton on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The Coyotes will also take part in this year's Kraft Hockeyville game versus the Calgary Flames in Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The Coyotes will return home to Jobing.com Arena on Friday, Oct. 3 to conclude their 2014 preseason against San Jose at 7 p.m.
