Comparing the 1993 and 2013 Wolverines

A position-by-position breakdown of the two most recent Final Four teams at Michigan — the 1993 Fab Five against this year's team.

POINT GUARD - Jalen Rose (1993) vs. Trey Burke (2013):
Rose was obviously a great college player and went on to have a heck of an NBA career, but this really isn't close. Burke averaged three more points per game, three more assists and had more blocks and steals. He's also a much better 3-point shooter than Rose. Rose had a slight edge on the boards, but that's not enough to take down the consensus Player of the Year. ADVANTAGE: 2013

SHOOTING GUARD - Ray Jackson (1993) vs. Tim Hardaway, Jr. (2013):
Hardaway is the current Wolverines' second scoring option, while Jackson was fifth for the Fab Five. Robinson also got more rebounds and assists, while neither player produced many steals or blocks. ADVANTAGE: 2013

3-POINT SHOOTER - Jimmy King (1993) vs. Nik Stauskas (2013):

Stauskas shot 44.9 percent from behind the line to King's 40.2 percent. King, though, did more other things than Stauskas, who disappeared for much of Big Ten play. ADVANTAGE: 1993

FORWARD - Chris Webber (1993) vs. Glenn Robinson III (2013):

GR3 has great bloodlines, and is probably going to have an NBA career in a year or two. Chris Webber was a college-basketball superstar. Robinson averaged 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds this season, while Webber was at 19.2 and 10.1 ... and he could dunk a little, too. ADVANTAGE: 1993

CENTER - Juwan Howard (1993) vs. Glenn McGary (2013):

Howard wasn't yet the wily veteran who survived in the NBA for almost 20 years, but he still had a lot more experience than a kid with four career starts. McGary would bring a ton of energy to the matchup, and he'd be a physical match for Howard, but he would also have to worry about helping Robinson with Webber. ADVANTAGE: 1993

BENCH:
Eric Riley led the Fab Five's backups with 5.6 points a game, while Jordan Morgan is below five for the current team. In a game between these two teams, the only way anyone is getting significant time off the bench is due to foul trouble. Rob Pelinka did go on to become Kobe Bryant's agent, while John Beilein claims Spike Albrecht is Michigan's most eligible bachelor. ADVANTAGE: NONE

COACH: Steve Fisher (1993) vs. John Beilein (2013). Fisher famously took over the Wolverines at the start of the 1989 NCAA tournament and brought home the program's only national title. After that, his career was known for the Fab Five and the Ed Martin scandal. Beilein is the ultimate basketball lifer, spending nearly 40 years moving up the ladder from high school to community college to Division II and through the ranks of Division I. ADVANTAGE: 2013
