Cleveland firework mistakenly set off after a Kansas City home run

Published Sep. 15, 2015 9:48 p.m. ET

In the top of the fifth inning Tuesday in Cleveland, Kansas City's Alex Rios sent a pitch from Josh Tomlin sailing over the left-field wall for a solo home run.

Usually after the visiting team hits a home run, you may hear some boos or even some applause, but not fireworks, right?

Well, the fireworks technician at Progressive Field, mistakenly thinking the home run was hit by a member of the Indians, hit the button to send a firework up into the night sky, causing fans at the ballpark to boo him instead of Rios.

TV cameras caught the fireworks guy immediately after and he seemed to realize the gravity of the mistake.

It's OK, man. We forgive you.
