Chris Jent named head coach of Suns' D-League team in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Phoenix Suns and Bakersfield Jam have named Chris Jent the head coach of the Jam, it was announced Thursday.
Jent, 45, joins the Jam organization after spending the 2013-14 season and the beginning of the 2014-15 season as Michael Malone's lead assistant with the Sacramento Kings. Prior to his role with the Kings, Jent served as an assistant coach at his alma mater Ohio State for two seasons (2011-13).
"Chris Jent is going to be a big asset to our Suns family," said Suns director of player personnel and Bakersfield Jam general manager Bubba Burrage. "Chris is a very qualified coach both technically and instructionally."
Jent has also served on the coaching staffs of the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic and was interim head coach for the Magic for the final 18 games of the 2004-05 season. He then moved on to the Cleveland Cavaliers as director of player development.
Jent's playing career included two seasons in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks.
