Chris Bosh ruled out for rest of season while being treated for blood clots
MIAMI -- All-Star center Chris Bosh will not play again this season, the Miami Heat announced Saturday. The 12th-year pro is undergoing treatment for blood clots on his lung.
Bosh's medical condition deteriorated over the course of the week after he was unable to participate in the first two Heat practice sessions after the All-Star break.
Though he played in the All-Star game in New York last weekend, he had been complaining of upper body pain and began feeling ill during a family vacation in Haiti earlier this week.
Initial tests were inconclusive, and Bosh has remained hospitalized since Thursday awaiting the results of further testing.
"Chris is actually doing very well right now," head coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He is starting to feel better, and that is the most important thing. From a clarity standpoint, we are a lot better this morning once we received the news. The most important thing is Chris' health. This is bigger then basketball, obviously.
"I was able to see him today. Dwyane (Wade) was able to to see him today. He is in good spirits. CB is amazing. The Bosh family is doing well. The clarity of it was the most important thing to be able to move forward."
The Heat's brief statement confirming the news stated that Bosh is "receiving care under the guidance of Miami Heat team physicians at a Baptist Health System Hospital [and] is currently resting comfortably. Chris is OK and his prognosis is good."
Bosh was averaging 21.1 points, seven rebounds and 2.2 assists in more than 35 minutes a game this season.
