Champion filly Beholder taken off sales block, will run again

Two-time Eclipse Award-winning filly Beholder has been taken off the sales block and will resume training after she recovers from a fever that knocked her out of the Breeders' Cup.

Owner B. Wayne Hughes of Spendthrift Farm decided not to sell Beholder in the Fasig-Tipton Sale on Nov. 3 at Keeneland. Instead, she will stay with Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella.

A tweet from Spendthrift late Saturday said Beholder will resume training once she recovers from the fever. Mandella said Beholder will eventually be sent to a farm to recover further before she returns to the racetrack.

Beholder had been set to defend her title in the $2 million BC Distaff on Friday at Santa Anita before she spiked a fever recently.

She won Eclipse Awards as champion 2-year-old filly in 2012 and champion 3-year-old filly last year. Beholder has 10 wins in 15 career starts, and earnings of $3,368,300.
