Rutherford, an outfielder from Chaminade High School and an UCLA commit, was selected 18th overall by NYY on Thursday.
Kevin Gowdy, a star pitcher from Santa Barbara High School, was the first pick in the second round ... going to the Phillies with the 42nd overall selection.
