Cards announce minor league staff; 'Stubby' Clapp named AAA manager

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals announced a bevy of minor league staff moves Wednesday, among them Richard "Stubby" Clapp being named manager of the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. 

Clapp, a former Cardinals second baseman and left fielder, served as hitting coach for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto-A) in 2015-16. Clapp's uniform no. 10 was retired by Memphis in 2007. 

The Redbirds were in search of a new manager after Mike Shildt was promoted to the Cardinals' big-league coaching staff earlier this month. 

The Cardinals also announced Johnny Rodriguez will take over as manager of the Springfield Cardinals (Double-A), Chris Swauger has been promoted to the managerial post for full-season Peoria (A), Dan Bilardello at Palm Beach (A), Joe Kruzel at State College (A), Roberto Espinoza at Johnson City, Steve Turco at the Gulf Coast League Cardinals and Frey Peniche as manager of the Cardinals' Dominican Summer League team.
