Cardinals sign outside linebacker Groves
The Cardinals signed free-agent linebacker Quentin Groves and released wide receiver Marc Wilson on Thursday. In accordance with club policy, terms of Groves' deal were not disclosed.
The 27-year-old Groves, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound outside linebacker, joins the Cardinals after playing the past two seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He played in 31 games with the Raiders, including three starts last season, and had 19 tackles and a forced fumble. A 2008 second-round selection (52nd overall) out of Auburn, Groves spent his first two seasons in Jacksonville being traded to Oakland in 2010.
Groves left Auburn tied for the school record in sacks with 26 and was named to the All-SEC first team as a junior in 2006, when he had 9.5 sacks.
In his four years in the NFL, Groves has played in 63 games (22 starts) and has 95 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, six passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
The Cardinals did not take an outside linebacker in last month's draft, and veteran Clark Haggans is an unrestricted free agent.
