The club announced in January that it would wear patches in honor of the 22-year-old outfielder, who passed away in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic. The original design also included Taveras' number underneath his initials, but it was removed when pitcher Carlos Martinez decided to switch to No. 18 in honor of his former teammate.

Taveras appeared in 80 games for St. Louis last season, batting .239 with three home runs and 22 RBIs.
The Cardinals will open the regular season against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, April 5, at 7 p.m.
