A new energy has overtaken the Colorado football program in the wake of former coach Dan Hawkins' firing last week and the Buffs rallying for their first victory in six games.

Senior quarterback Cody Hawkins, the former coach's son, played one of his best games in the win over Iowa State. He completed 16 of 24 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns to finish the game with his career-best single-game passer rating of 201.02. He was named Big 12 Conference offensive Player of the Week.

The Buffs have been renewed by the victory and having the negativity surrounding their former coach removed. They responded well to interim coach Brian Cabral making some immediate changes to the pregame approach by bringing back some old traditions that had been cast aside under Hawkins.
