Buckeyes' Bosa named freshman All-American

Joey Bosa was hard to miss for anyone who watched the Ohio State defense this season, and some folks outside the Big Ten noticed too as the defensive lineman was named to two freshman All-America teams Friday.

Bosa, a five-star recruit from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas, became a starter early in the year because of an injury to sophomore Adolphus Washington (also a five-star recruit) and filled in more than adequately.


After averaging nearly a tackle for loss per game this season, he was selected to the freshman All-America teams of by The Sporting News and College Football News.

The defensive end has 39 tackles, including 12.5 for loss and 6.5 sacks. He was named honorable mention All-Big Ten last week.

CFN also noticed the performance of OSU punter Cameron Johnston, who made that publication's freshman All-America second team after averaging 43.5 yards per punt. Per Ohio State, the native Australian's 63.6-percent rate of punts downed inside the 20 leads the nation.
