Browns top cornerback Joe Haden injured
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Browns star cornerback Joe Haden will not return to Sunday's game against Cincinnati because of a shoulder injury.
Haden walked to the locker room for further evaluation and tests early in the second quarter, with the Browns trailing 17-0. The Browns announced early in the second half that Haden's day was over.
Late in the first half, the Browns lost rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert with a head injury, further depleting Cleveland's banged-up secondary. The Browns did not give an immediate update on Gilbert, the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft.
Haden is Cleveland's top defensive player and his assignment against the Bengals is to cover wide receiver A.J. Green. Haden held Green to just five catches for 30 yards in the two previous games between the teams.
Haden is having another Pro Bowl-caliber season. He has three interceptions and he's had to guard some of the NFL's top receivers.
The losses of Haden and Gilbert are compounded by the Browns being without rookie cornerback K'Waun Williams and safety Tashaun Gipson, who leads the league with six interceptions but missed his third game with a knee injury.
The Browns also lost return specialist Marlon Moore with a knee injury.
