Browns' Gordon exits preseason game with 'minor' injury

DETROIT -- Saturday night, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was on the receiving end of his team's biggest play of the Browns preseason opener vs. the Detroit Lions.

But after that 22-yard catch came a quick exit. Gordon, who worked exclusively with the Browns starters, left with what Browns coach Mike Pettine called a minor injury after catching two passes for 32 yards.

Pettine said the Browns took Gordon out of the game as a precaution. Gordon was spotted after the game walking towards Ford Field's X-ray room.

Gordon remains in waiting mode after having his appeal of a possible indefinite NFL suspension heard last week. News of the possible suspension first leaked in May, but Gordon has participated in practice with the Browns throughout the spring and summer.

He had another opportunity at a big play Saturday night on the third drive for the Browns starters, but Gordon couldn't bring in a Brian Hoyer pass along the back line of the end zone. Asked after the game if Gordon should have caught that ball, Pettine said the Browns were flagged on the play and the touchdown would have been brought back.

Gordon led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards last year despite missing the season's first two games due to a suspension.
