Brewers to recall Knebel from Triple-A

The Milwaukee Brewers on Friday will recall pitcher Corey Knebel from Triple-A Colorado Springs, the team announced Thursday.

Knebel is taking the roster spot of Michael Blazek, whom the Brewers optioned on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Knebel has a 8.31 ERA in five appearances (4 1/3 innings) for the Brewers this season, last pitching in the majors June 18. He has a 1.32 ERA in 11 appearances (13 2/3) innings for Colorado Springs, striking out 14 and walking three.

Knebel began the season on the disabled list with a strained left oblique and didn't pitch in a game until May 31. He has a 3.98 ERA in 61 major-league appearances over three seasons and posted a 3.22 ERA in 48 appearances last season for the Brewers.

Blazek, 27, has a 5.87 ERA in 33 appearances (30 2/3 innings) this season for the Brewers, most recently giving up four earned runs July 9 against the Cardinals. He has a 3.99 career ERA, including a 2.43 ERA in 45 games last season.
