Brewers sign Eric Young Jr. to minor-league deal, invite to camp
Veteran outfielder Eric Young Jr. announced weeks ago that he had signed a minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. On Tuesday, the Brewers made the move official, along with inviting Young to the team's major-league spring training camp.
Young is a seven-year veteran in the majors, having played for Colorado, Atlanta and the New York Mets. In 557 career games he has a .247 batting average, .314 on-base percentage and .328 slugging percentage. Known for his speed, Young has 144 stolen bases with just 35 caught stealings (81.0 percent success rate).
The son of former longtime major-league second baseman Eric Young, who played for the Brewers in 2002 and 2003, Young Jr. played in just 53 games in 2015, splitting time between New York and Atlanta, batting .153.
Young Jr. led the majors in steals in 2013 with 46 and followed that up with 30 stolen bases in 2014.
A switch-hitter, Young has mainly played left field in his career, but has also played center field, right field and second base.
