The Milwaukee Brewers added a couple of players to their spring training roster, signing infielder Irving Falu and catcher Matt Pagnozzi to minor-league contracts with invitations to big-league camp.
Falu has appeared in 25 major-league games in his career, with 24 coming with Kansas City in 2012. The 30-year-old hit .341 with seven RBI in 85 at-bats in 2012 for the Royals, playing second base, shortstop and third base.
Kansas City's 21st-round pick in the 2003 draft, Falu spent most of 2013 with Triple-A Omaha, hitting .256 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 135 games.
Pagnozzi played in nine games last season for Houston, hitting .143 in 21 at-bats. The 31-year-old catcher has played in 42 major-league games over four years with St. Louis, Colorado, Pittsburgh and Houston. He spent most of 2013 with Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate, hitting .210 with six home runs and 31 RBI for Gwinnett.
The Brewers also agreed to major-league contracts with right-handed pitchers Donovan Hand and Michael Olmsted on Wednesday.
Hand, 27, went 1-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 31 games and seven starts for the Brewers in 2013. He's expected to compete for a spot in Milwaukee's bullpen during spring training.
A power relief arm, Olmsted had a chance to make the roster out of camp last season but was eventually sent to Triple-A Nashville where he struggled to a 6.71 ERA in 49 appearances. The Brewers eventually sent the 26-year-old to Double-A Huntsville where he ended his season with six scoreless outings.
