The after effects of first baseman Mat Gamel's season-ending injury continued to sweep through the organization Friday, as reliever Zach Braddock was released to make room for Brooks Conrad, the team's latest call-up.
Gamel's injury prompted the Brewers to call up Conrad, who was not on the 40-man roster. And in order to fit Conrad, without putting Gamel on the 60-day DL, Milwaukee had to open up a spot.
Before his release, Braddock had been on the restricted list with Triple-A Nashville with undisclosed issues. Braddock had missed time last season due to complications from a sleep disorder.
At just 24, Braddock had spent his first two seasons in the majors in a Brewers uniform, appearing in 71 games with a 4.41 ERA. Conrad, who joins the team this weekend, had been scorching hot at Triple-A Nashville before the call-up, batting .400 in 15 games.
