Brewers recall Caleb Gindl from minors
The Milwaukee Brewers recalled outfielder Caleb
Gindl from Triple-A Nashville, filling the roster spot vacated by right-hander
Johnny Hellweg's demotion to the minor leagues.
Gindl, 24, made his major league debut with the Brewers
on June 15, hitting .250 with one RBI in 20 at-bats.
Needing an extra pitcher to aid a taxed bullpen, Gindl
was sent back to Nashville on June 28 when right-hander Tyler Thornburg was
recalled.
Milwaukee's fifth-round pick in 2007, Gindl is hitting .294
with 10 home runs and 45 RBI in Triple-A.
With Gindl coming up, the Brewers' bench is back to a
more desired number of five. As Norichika Aoki battles an elbow injury and Ryan
Braun is being eased back from the disabled list, Gindl will provide outfield
insurance over the break.
