Brewers option Green to Triple-A Nashville
With very little playing time available to third base prospect Taylor Green at the major league level, the Milwaukee Brewers optioned Green to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday after their extra-innings win over the Astros.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke did not announce a replacement for Green on the major league roster, but he told reporters that a position player will be brought up later this week to take the open spot.
Green had been called up to fill in in the infield, where the Brewers had dealt with a bevy of injuries this season. But now, with Aramis Ramirez and Corey Hart firmly entrenched at the corners, Green has gotten most of his work lately as a pinch hitter and late-game replacement.
In his time in Milwaukee, Green batted .198 and had two home runs and 10 RBI in 81 at-bats.
"I know we need to get him three, four, five at-bats, and he hasn't had that for a long time," Roenicke told reporters. "The job gets more difficult when you don't do it, and we need to get him back swinging it."
