Brewers designate Nevin Ashley for assignment, claim RHP Guerra off waivers

After making his major-league debut with the Milwaukee Brewers this past season at age 31, Nevin Ashley's short time with the big-league club might be ended.
The team designated Ashley for assignment on Wednesday, removing him from the 40-man roster. The catcher, who was called up on Sept. 7, hit .100 with one RBI in 20 at bats in the majors.
In a corresponding move, the Brewers claimed right-handed pitcher Junior Guerra off waivers from the Chicago White Sox. Guerra, a 30-year-old reliever, appeared in three games for the White Sox last season, posting a 6.75 ERA over four innings.
After making announcements on the Brewers' coaching staff the day before, the moves Wednesday were the first player personnel decisions made by new general manager David Stearns.
