Brewers deal 1B Lind to Mariners for pitching prospects
The Milwaukee Brewers traded first baseman Adam Lind to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday for three right-handed pitching prospects, all of whom are under 20 years old.
In exchange for Lind, who batted .277 with 20 home runs for Milwaukee in 2015, the Brewers received pitchers Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera and Freddy Peralta. Missaki and Peralta are 19 years old and Herrera 18.
Missaki, who was born in Japan and was raised in Brazil, underwent Tommy John surgery this past May. He had posted a 3.14 ERA for Single-A Clinton while walking five and striking out 34 in 34 1/3 innings.
Herrera's first year as a professional was for Seattle's team in the Dominican Summer League, where he had a 3.26 ERA with 13 walks and 73 strikeouts in 80 innings.
Peralta, who was listed as No. 24 on Seattle's prospect list before the season by Baseball America, had a 4.11 ERA with the Rookie Arizona Mariners in 2015, walking just eight in 57 innings with 67 strikeouts.
The Brewers acquired Lind from Toronto for pitcher Marco Estrada last offseason and picked up his $8 million option following the 2015 season. Milwaukee is now looking for a first baseman, with a couple of possibilities being Jason Rogers and Ramon Flores, the latter of whom was acquired from Seattle earlier this offseason.
