Jason Heyward, right fielder for the 13-5 Atlanta Braves, was taken to the hospital Monday night to undergo an appendectomy, per the team's release.

The surgery was performed at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colo., where the Braves are in town to play the Colorado Rockies.

His status moving forward is unknown as of Monday night, as no additional information was provided.

Heyward, a Gold Glove outfielder in 2012, is hitting .121 with two home runs and five RBI so far this season. In the team's final series before heading to Denver — a four-game stretch in Pittsburgh — he finished 1 for 11 at the plate before sitting out the series finale.

The Braves-Rockies game scheduled for Monday was postponed due to inclement weather.

The two teams are schedule to square off in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
