Bourn suspended 1 game for making contact with umpire

NEW YORK (AP) -- Cleveland outfielder Michael Bourn has been suspended for one game and fined after Major League Baseball concluded he made contact with umpire Phil Cuzzi during a game at Wrigley Field this week.

Major League Baseball Senior Vice President Joe Garagiola Jr. announced the penalty Thursday. Bourne appealed, delaying the suspension until after the appeals process.

Bourn took a called third strike in the fourth inning Tuesday, started talking with Cuzzi, the plate umpire, and then was ejected. Bourn got into an animated argument and was restrained by third base coach Mike Sarbaugh and bench coach Brad Mills.

Bourn struck out in each of his two at-bats, dropping his average in June to .212 (7 for 33).
