ST. LOUIS -- The Blues signed defenseman Chris Butler, a St. Louis native who played for Calgary last season, to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Butler, 27, appeared in all 82 games with Calgary in 2013-14. He scored 16 points (two goals, 14 assists) and accumulated 39 penalty minutes.
Since being selected in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by Buffalo, the 6-foot-1, 194-pound defenseman has appeared in six NHL seasons, including stints with Calgary and Buffalo. He has totaled 75 points (10 goals, 65 assists) and 158 penalty minutes in 349 career regular-season games. He has one assist and 10 penalty minutes in seven playoff appearances.
Butler is a graduate of Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis.
Also on Wednesday, the Blues signed forward Benn Ferriero to a one-year, two-way contract.
Ferriero, 27, spent most of last season with the American Hockey League's Utica Comets, though he did dress in two games with the Vancouver Canucks.
The 5-11, 187-pound forward has appeared in five NHL seasons, including stints with San Jose (2009-12), the New York Rangers (2012-13) and Vancouver. He has scored 23 points (14 goals, nine assists) in 98 career regular-season games along with one goal in eight career postseason games.
