Belgian triathlete wins Ironman Austria for seventh time

Marino Vanhoenacker of Belgium dominated the Ironman Austria triathlon to win the event for a seventh time on Sunday, while Eva Wutti of Austria won the women's competition.
A six-time winner from 2006-11, Vanhoenacker was fourth after the swimming but took the lead early in the cycling stage and stayed ahead of the field. He finished in 7 hours, 48 minutes, 15 seconds -- the fourth fastest time ever in an Ironman event and second fastest at Ironman Austria.
For his 13th win in 23 Ironman starts, Vanhoenacker led second-place Michael Weiss of Austria by 18:44, while last year's winner Ivan Rana of Spain came another 1:26 back in third.
Wutti timed 8:45:37 to beat Lisa Huetthaler by 17:09 for an Austrian 1-2 finish in the women's event. Sarah Piampiano of the United States took third in 9:03:10.
The competition consists of a 3.8-kilometer swim, followed by a 180K bicycle ride and a full 42.2K marathon run.
