Baylor QB Bryce Petty taken by Jets in fourth round
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Jets have drafted Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty with their fourth-round pick, moving up one spot Saturday in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Petty, who threw 61 touchdowns the last two seasons, gives the Jets another quarterback to compete with Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Simms. Petty led Baylor to consecutive Big 12 championships, and holds 31 school records.
Coach Todd Bowles had recently said the Jets hoped to add another quarterback to the mix.
The Jets gave up the 104th pick and a seventh-rounder (No. 229) to the Jaguars to move up to take Petty.
New York took USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams in the first round, Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith in the second and Louisville linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin in the third.
