Badgers hockey endures 8-1 whitewash
Fifth-ranked Michigan Tech enjoyed a one-sided victory against the Wisconsin men's hockey squad on Friday night, dealing the Badgers an 8-1 defeat at the Kohl Center.
Michigan Tech tallied three first-period goals, courtesy of Tanner Kero, Alex Petan and Blake Pietila, setting an early tone.
Then, the visitors piled on even more in the night's second stanza, and Wisconsin (1-11-1 overall) eventually found itself in a 6-0 hole.
"They took advantage of their scoring opportunities and they got the great start you always talk about as a team," said Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves. "They're a good club and there's a reason why they are number five in the country."
Finally, at 19:53 of the second period, Wisconsin's Morgan Zulinick provided the Badgers' lone goal of the evening.
Michigan Tech (15-4-0) was paced by senior David Johnstone's three assists, while teammates Kero and Pietila both scored a pair of goals.
Wisconsin and Michigan Tech return to action on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Kohl Center.
