Badgers hockey blanked by Spartans
Wisconsin men's hockey's winning streak proved to be short-lived.
After winning consecutive games entering Saturday's contest, Wisconsin reverted back to its recent struggles, suffering a 3-0 shutout loss at the hands of visiting Michigan State at the Kohl Center.
Michigan State (13-12-2 overall, 7-5-2-2 Big Ten) seized early control on Saturday night, thanks to a pair of first-period goals from Ryan Keller.
Then, following a scoreless second period, Michigan State's Thomas Ebbing ended any of the night's remaining suspense when he lit the lamp at 4:47 of the third period.
The Spartans were led by netminder Jake Hildebrand's 31 saves, and fellow Michigan State junior Michael Ferrantino dished out a pair of assists.
Wisconsin (4-20-4 overall, 2-10-2-2 Big Ten) was led by senior goalie Joel Rumpel's 30 saves. The Badgers are now 3-10-3 on their home ice this season.
The Badgers had at least 30 shots in a game for just the fifth time this season.
Wisconsin returns to action at Michigan next Friday at 6:30 p.m., in a game set to be televised on FOX Sports Wisconsin.
