NEW YORK (AP) Aztec Brave earned his first stakes victory Sunday, beating Chamois by 1 1/4 lengths in the $100,000 Danger's Hour for older turf runners at Aqueduct.
Manuel Franco guided the 4-year-old gelding immediately to the lead, and they dictated the pace in the mile run in 1:37.65 over the firm course. It was a winning New York debut for trainer Joe Sharp, the husband of recently retired jockey Rosie Napravnik.
Aztec Brave paid $10, $5 and $2.60 for his fourth win in 13 starts.
Chamois returned $4.80 and $2.50, and Lubash, the 4-5 favorite, paid $2.10 to show.
