ASU gets 2016 commitment from 4-star recruit Brendan Bailey
Arizona State basketball coach Herb Sendek has received his first oral commitment for the class of 2016 in Brendan Bailey, the son of former NBA forward Thurl Bailey.
Bailey, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing, averaged 16 points and six rebounds as a sophomore at American Fork (Utah) High School and is ranked by Scout as the No. 66 prospect in 2016. His sister, BreElle Bailey, is a sophomore on ASU's volleyball team.
"I thought it was the best fit for me," Bailey told Scout.com. "I just had such a great relationship with the whole entire coaching staff and a lot of other people there. I just thought it was the best place for me to become person and basketball player.
"I think I'll fit in great because they play the same style of basketball that I like to play," Bailey said. "They get up and down, which I like to do, and they shoot a lot of threes and I like to do that also."
Bailey said his sister factored into the decision.
"A little bit, because I thought it'd be cool to go to the same school as my sister," he said. "She just loves it so much."
Scout.com recruiting analyst Josh Gershon said Bailey's best attribute is his shooting ability, especially from distance: "Bailey is a kid who can be lethal both off the catch and pull, also having the ability to pour in points from distance, but he's also improved his midrange pull-up jumper."
Gershon said Bailey needs to mature physically, "and a good few years in the weight room should take his game to the next level."
