SEATTLE, Wash. -- Brian Wolfe homered and Erik Forgione drove in three runs to propel the streaking Washington baseball team to an 8-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Husky Ballpark to secure a series sweep over Arizona.
The Huskies cruised to the sweep behind strong pitching and timely hitting from an offense that rapped out 10 hits. Washington finished 6-for-12 batting with runners in scoring position
Starter Jeff Brigham (W, 4-0) remained undefeated on the season as he allowed just three hits over six-plus shutout innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Washington (16-5-1, 5-1) erupted for five runs in the home half of the fifth inning to break open a 3-0 game. After Arizona starter Austin Schnabel gave up back-to-back hits, reliever Xavier Borde issued a walk before Branden Berry delivered a two-run double to the wall in left-center. Wolfe followed with a three-run shot over the right field wall to put an exclamation on the scoring.
The Huskies built a three-run cushion with a run in the third and two in the fourth. Forgione's base hit bunt with runners at the corners drove in the game's first run, and he knocked in two more with a two-out double in the fourth inning.
Arizona (11-15, 1-5 Pac-12) put its leadoff runner on base four times, but had trouble moving runners and could not get a key hit when they did. The Wildcats were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and 0-for-15 with runners on base.
Schnabel (L, 0-3) suffered the loss in four-plus innings on the mound. The freshman right-hander gave up five runs on seven hits and a pair of walks.
The Wildcats received strong relief pitching from right-handers Tyler Parmenter and Bobby Dalbec, who combined for four shutout innings. Parmenter racked up a career-high seven strikeouts in three innings of work.
However, it was the Huskies' bullpen that dominated all weekend. On Sunday, Will Ballowe and Alex Nesbitt combined for three shutout innings in relief of Brigham. For the series, Washington's bullpen allowed only one run over 9 1/3 total innings.
