Akron's Harney suspended indefinitely

University of Akron forward Nick Harney has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team.

One of Akron's most gifted and most experienced players, the 6'8 Harney has been in and out of the Zips' starting lineup this season, averaging 8.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. Harney can score both inside and out and can play multiple spots for the Zips, who are at their best when they get balanced scoring.

Akron (16-7, 8-2) leads the Mid-American Conference East Division and is tied for the league's overall lead with Toledo, which has suspended leading scorer Justin Drummond for one game after he was arrested on DUI charges last weekend. Akron has released no details on Harney's situation in advance of its home game Wednesday night vs. Western Michigan.

Like teammate Demetrius Treadwell, Harney is a former Prop 48 enrollee who's listed as a senior this season. Both could receive another year of eligibility if they graduate in good standing later this year.

For now, though, Harney's status is uncertain.
