Akron OF Moncrief named Player of the Week
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that Double-A Akron OF CARLOS MONCRIEF has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for June 5-11. Moncrief, 24, ranked second in the Eastern League in batting throughout the week, hitting .524 (11-21) with 6 RBI while recording a 1.260 OPS (.545 OBP/.714 SLG.). He recorded 4 multi-hit performances, including two 3-hit games on June 5 vs. New Hampshire and again on June 7th vs. Portland.
On the season he is batting .281 (61-217) with a team leading 7 home runs and 27 RBI. Moncrief is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, dating back to May 29, hitting .429 (18-42) with 2 home runs, 8 RBI and 10 runs scored over the span. The Jackson, Mississippi native was originally drafted by the Indians in the 14th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He spent his first two professional seasons with the club as a pitcher before converting to outfield prior to the start of the 2010 season. Moncrief hit a home run every 23.53 at-bats last season, which was the 4th best ratio in the Carolina League.
