After winning Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 and performing his trademark backflip, Carl Edwards grabbed the checkered flag and ran into the Charlotte Motor Speedway grandstands to share the victory with the fans.

This is not the first time Edwards has made his way into the stands after a race win, and the Joe Gibbs Racing driver says he hopes other drivers will give it a try.

"I believe they are serving alcoholic beverages at this property. I noticed a couple folks ‑‑ no, everybody was fine," Edwards joked after the race. "Everybody was having a good time up there. It's cool. It's neat to go up there and see how excited people are. I tell you, it really is one of the neatest things, and I hope some of the other drivers will do it, too, but to go up there and stand just a little ways in the grandstands and look back at the racetrack. You look up and down to your left and right and there's just a huge amount of people, and those fans are what make this sport, so that was really fun."

While Edwards said he saw a lot of fans in other the gear of other drivers, he hopes Sunday's win and his gesture after the race might convert a few new Edwards fans.

"I saw a lot of people with other guys' shirts on and stuff, but we're working on the merchandise sales stuff right now," he said with a smile.
