MUNICH (AP) A lawyer for several members of a German wrestling club says one of them has tested positive for meldonium, the drug also used by Maria Sharapova.
Lawyer Manfred Zipper did not identify the wrestler, who belongs to the Nendingen club, the German team champion. The German wrestling federation says another wrestler is suspected of exceeding infusion volumes allowed by the German anti-doping law, but has not failed a drug test.
The Freiburg prosecutors have broadened their investigation to include other members of the Nendingen club.
Meldonium has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency since Jan. 1. The drug increases blood flow, which improves exercise capacity in athletes by carrying more oxygen to muscle tissue.
