54% of TV viewers in KC watched Royals and Chiefs on Friday night
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Predictably, sports fans here planted themselves in front of their televisions Friday night to catch either the Royals' game on FOX Sports Kansas City or the Chiefs' preseason opener on local CBS affiliate KCTV.
Or both.
The games combined to draw a remarkable 54 share -- meaning 54 percent of those watching television in the Kansas City market were tuned into either the Royals' game against the Red Sox or the Chiefs' game at New Orleans.
The Chiefs' game was clearly the ratings winner, nailing a 39 share and a 22.7 rating, as fans watched the Chiefs usher in the Andy Reid-Alex Smith era.
The Royals-Red Sox game drew a 15 share and an 8.9 rating (roughly 83,000 households). Another 29,485 fans attended Friday's game at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals, in the midst of a playoff drive, had an impressive week, setting several ratings records, including an 11.4 on Thursday -- the highest rating ever for a Royals game on FSKC.
