Reaction to Pyeongchang's victory in the vote for the 2018 Winter Olympics:

---

''I didn't expect a victory in the first round, frankly speaking. I thought there would be at least two rounds. But well done, I mean the best one has won convincingly.'' - Jacques Rogge, International Olympic Committee President.

---

''I think it is combination of two factors. To reward the perseverance and patience. The fact they (Pyeongchang) showed the vision that they wanted to introduce winter sports in Asia has also played a role.'' - Rogge.

---

''I had some confidence but I did not expect this number, 63 (votes). I believe that all the IOC members understood our message. I believe that all the IOC members understood our message. They understood it was right time, right place, right now.'' - Cho Yang-ho, Pyeongchang 2018 bid chairman.

---

''I am lost for words about now. I can't say anything right now. I'm really excited. It will be very good to compete in my own country.'' - Kim Yu-na, reigning Olympic figure skating champion and Pyeongchang 2018 bid ambassador.

---

''Now Rio (Summer Olympics host, 2016) and us have shown other developing countries that with a good bid and a good campaign they can host games, too. It's a great chance for developing countries to take hope to organize either the Winter Games or Summer Games in the future.'' - Park Yong-sung, Korean Olympic Committee President.

---

''Of course I'm disappointed, we've worked so hard. We presented a real great bid, no doubt, but ... Pyeongchang, a new market, the new horizons. It was a clear decision about the direction where they (the IOC) want to take the games to.'' - Bernhard Schwank, Munich 2018 bid CEO.

---

''This is a democratic vote and we see the result. I think sentiment was obvious in the Pyeongchang presentation. They were playing on this sympathy and compassion minute after minute.'' - Thomas Bach, German Olympic Committee head and senior figure in Munich bid.

---

''Rio was different. Rio did not play on previous defeats or sympathy or even compassion. Rio was the opening of a new continent for Olympics and Summer Games. This has a totally different quality.'' - Bach.

---

''We congratulate Pyeongchang. We knew it would be very difficult.'' - Christian Wulff, German President.

---

''Many lessons have been learned during this process and it can only make French sport stronger,'' - Annecy 2018 bid committee.

---

''They've (Pyeongchang) been here twice already. They've done everything they've been asked to do. If you're a worldwide organization you have got to be able to show that by moving around the world.'' - Dick Pound, Canadian IOC member.

---

''I suspect that nobody thought that it was 63 (votes) to 25. It's (Pyeongchang) not two-and-a-half times as good as Munich.'' - Pound

---

''I just think it's a sense of fairness.'' - Craig Reedie, British IOC executive board member.

---

''They (Pyeongchang) were the top favorites from the beginning, let's be honest. They made a lot of the third time (bidding). Excellent candidacy, I have to tell you. They did an excellent job.'' - Gianfranco Kasper, Swiss IOC member.

---

''People felt strongly that they have done everything necessary. Why shouldn't they have the games? And they will deliver fantastic games.'' - Gerhard Heiberg, Norwegian IOC executive board member.

---

''Annecy was here for the first time, so was Munich, and you normally don't win the first time.'' - Heiberg.
