The Munich chapter of the Greens party says it's committed to the city's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics despite the party's national leadership deciding not to back the candidacy.

The party's representatives on the city council have backed the project and say they remain behind it.

A national party conference over the weekend voted not to support Munich's Olympic bid, and one of the Greens leaders said she was stepping down from the bid committee's board.

Germany's sports chief says the withdrawal of Greens support will not hurt the bid.
