VIENNA -- Austrian lugers Andreas and Wolfgang Linger have announced their retirement, less than six weeks after the brothers failed to win a record third straight Olympic gold medal in the doubles competition.

Wolfgang Linger says ''we are both family men, and also our fire isn't burning like it should do. If you are not willing anymore to give 100 percent, you should not keep on racing.''

The Linger brothers won the Olympic doubles title in Turin in 2006 and again in Vancouver four years later, and took silver in Sochi last month behind Germans Tobias Wendl and Tobias Artl.

The Lingers, who have been competing together for 16 years, won three world titles, 15 World Cup events and the 2011-12 overall World Cup title.
